Frenzy

Note: Any physical provocation is a 3-trait Self-control test on Path of Humanity and worse for those on Instinct. Therefore, unless you have 5 Self-control and Calm Heart (3) and are not a Brujah, goading someone into combat or being near a combat is actually a terrible, terrible thing. While it can be fun, part of the “personal horror” of the universe is that you can lose yourself to the beast at any time, such as when attacked. Be forewarned that you may enter frenzy when involved in combat… which likely will not be fun for your character.

We replaced the “gain a negative trait” with “lose a permanent virtue if you fail a retest with that virtue.”

Rage Frenzy – A target which caused your provocation becomes the objective in your path of destruction. You automatically spend a blood once per round in the manner which would make you most combat capable. (This may be pumping a trait if you have no disciplines or spending on celerity or shifting into wolf form.) You continue to attack the target until a new target interferes or gains your attention.

Fear Frenzy (aka Rotschrek) – In this situation, you shall do everything in your power to evade the provocation of your attacker. If you’re being grabbed by other characters, this may mean you must push them off before running, but you should take every action with the intent to escape.

Hunger Frenzy – You attack with intent to feed on the nearest source of viable blood. Viable means obtainable. If you’re caught in a choice between two vampires standing in a room with you, your beast will attack the one it believes itself most capable of feeding on. If one is a Brujah who you know can destroy you and the other is a Malkavian who is physically weak, your beast will pick the one it most believes it can take the blood from. (In this case, the poor Malkavian.)

Disciplines and Frenzy

The following Disciplines can be used by a person in Frenzy:
Potence, Fortitude, Celerity, Quietus, Protean, Dementate (Voice of Madness, TI), Presence (Dread Gaze), Obtenebration (Arms – If already activated before frenzy, Black Metamorphosis, and Shadow Form – only in Fear Frenzy) and Viscissitude (Horrid Form).

The following cannot be used by a person in Frenzy:
Auspex, Dementate (except where listed above), Dominate, Presence (except where listed above), Obfuscate, Obtenebration (everything not listed above as it is too subtle to use instinctively), Thaumaturgy.
**In general, if a level is a straight attack power, it can be used, and the various ash/blood/gas/etc forms can be used in fear frenzies.

Exiting Frenzy

Rage Frenzy – You will attack the target that provoked you, continuing until you receive a new target or are talked out of Frenzy or your target is destroyed.

Fear Frenzy (aka Rotschrek) – You have fled sufficiently far from your target so as to no longer fear it.

Hunger Frenzy – You have reached 4 or more blood traits in your system.

You may talk someone out of Frenzy, with a standard static social challenge (10 – Path), IF YOU SAY THE CORRECT THING. If you are attacked by a vampire you don’t know well enough, you aren’t going to know what buttons to push, the things he truly cares about to bring his rational mind from the brink. This MUST ALWAYS be role-played out, meaning that a statement such as “calm down” is likely not going to be effective.

Additionally, you may Quell a target out of Frenzy even if they want to be in Frenzy. You may not do this with a static social challenge, so if a target wants to be immune to your Dominate – so he can murder you – in his buried rational mind, he can just choose to stay in Frenzy and your challenge auto-fails.

Additionally, if you fail a Quell challenge, the victim does not auto-target you. If you fail a static social, he does.
